Check out this article from the Los Angeles Times:
'Calexit' organizers can now start collecting signatures to get California secession on the ballot
by Christine Mai-Duc, JAN. 26, 2017, lat.ms/2jlpeqo
My thoughts:
...actual secession will never actually occur
...still the first ballot measure will definitely make a big impression if it passes
...the threat that would make the rest of the union listen: loss of California's tax revenue
...California would then be in a perfect position to say:
......."we don't want to live under an irrational government that's elected via a fluke of the electoral college"
......."we want a revised system that properly honors objective science and properly weights the urban vs rural voters"
.......and many other important, corrective demands, maybe something as wild as "corporate money is not protected speech."
We're living in a world now ruled by a mix of 90% delusion and only 10% rationality.
Progressive voters won't win if they stick with 100% rationality, because the swing vote is not listening to sense right now.
We need instead a 90/10 mix of sanity and crazy, just to get their attention.
The CalExit initiative is just such a mix. It will create the opportunity for serious dialog with the Mensheviks that are currently dismantling our democratic institutions and discarding decades of progressive investment safeguarding the health of the country.
How can Colorado abet this move of another state? Hard to do without getting involved with Californians' politics, something we would not appreciate if done in reverse. But we could fire up a parallel movement within our own state so that California does not stand alone. Two states moving for succession is in many ways twice the threat, and thus twice as likely to generate the opportunity for reform. Moreover, two states will be twice as likely to attract a third and fouth state to the idea, setting off an avalanche that cannot be ignored. At that time we'll be able to effectively insist on true divestment within the administration, an end to gag orders on Federal agencies, and a Supreme court that reflects the temperment of the U.S. population rather than a sliver of right-tolife extremists.
So, shall we start a CoExit movement? Perhpas it's time to make a point.

If the measure gets on the ballot and gains approval by a majority of voters, it would repeal clauses in the California Constitution stating that the state is an "inseparable part of the United States" and that the U.S. Constitution is the "supreme law of the land," according to the title and summary prepared by the state attorney general's office.
The measure would place another question on the ballot in 2019, asking whether California should become a separate country. If at least half of registered voters participate in that vote, with at least 55% of those voting to approve, the results would be treated as California's declaration of independence.
